A bookmaker also known as bookie is a person or an
organization that takes bets based on certain activities such as sports and
events on agreed upon odds. The types of sports include soccer, horse racing,
basketball, baseball; motor sports etc, other events such as political
elections, award ceremonies, beauty pageants etc are also betted on.
Bookmakers adjust the odds in their favour; bookmakers aim
to assure a profit by gaining a balanced book by getting an equal number of
bets for each result or by getting the amounts betted on each outcome to
reflect its odds.
Sportsbook is a similar concept as bookmaker; it is a place
people go to wager on sporting events. Sportsbook uses a fee from their
customers for offering their services which is referred to as a vig. Sportsbook
prefers if customers bet n several games because then they will not go empty
handed and will provoke them to play further.
